4 Seasons of Film: Movies to Watch in 2017

Here at Dreaming Droids Productions, we love MOVIES! And as enthusiastic moviegoers, we are really looking forward to this year’s celluloid offerings. 2017 promises to be an interesting year as many long-term franchises return amid a spattering of remakes, and ret-cons. As a “Certified Film Geek,” these are the movies that grabbed my attention and are now on my radar that I want to go out and see. Please keep in mind that some of the release dates are subject to change.

Winter

“Resident Evil: The Final Chapter”- We want to see Milla Jovovich face off against the undead, evil Umbrella Corporation executives, and God knows what else in what is promised to be the last film in the franchise.  January 27

“John Wick 2” – John Wick is back for good as Keanu Reeves shoots his way to vengeance. Lovers of the “Hit-Man” genre will be thrilled with this stylized take. February 10

“Logan” – Wolverine and Professor X team up to save a young mutant in this gritty looking mutant action tale. Will X-23 steal the show? March 3

“Kong: Skull Island”- Tom Hiddleston, Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and John Goodman face off against giant sized monsters of the CGI variety. And in 3-D! Sign me up TWICE (at least). March 10

Spring

“Ghost in the Shell”– Elite Section Nine Cyborg-hybrid cop Scarlett Johansson takes on a savvy and deadly computer hacker. Fans of cyber-punk dystopias should not miss this one.  April 14

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” – Rejoin the team on their quest to find Peter Quill’s parents. Baby Groot will be EVERYWHERE. The retro soundtrack is sure to bring a smile to your face. May 5

“King Arthur: Legend of the Sword” – Director Guy Ritchie (also the hubby of Madonna) crowns Sons of Anarchy biker prince Charlie Hunan as King Arthur. Camelot meets crime noire in this unique take on the mythos.  May 12

“Alien: Covenant”– The colony ship Covenant finds out the planet they want to settle already has a deadly form of alien. Ridley Scott puts Michael Fassbender, James Franco, and funnyman Danny McBride together for a face hugging good time.  May 19

“Wonder Woman”– Hopes are very high for Gayle Gadot as Wonder Woman and there is little doubt she’s going to rope up some considerable attention with her magic lasso.  All signs point to this movie being off the hook. June 2

Summer

“Transformers: The Last Knight”– Optimus Prime takes the fate of Cybertron into his giant robot hands in what promises to be a knock down drag out robot war that will set your hair on fire. You want your hair on fire, don’t you? June 23

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” – Everyone’s favorite neighborhood Spider-Man swinging back into the Marvel Studio’s Cinematic Universe. Michael Keaton’s Vulture is on the fight card. I’ll know I will be ringside. July 7

“War for the Planet of the Apes”- Who are you going to root for in the upcoming battle of Man vs. Ape? Place your bets wisely. If this film hits all the same notes as the first two Ape films, then we should be in for a show. July 14

“The Dark Tower” – Idris Elba’s interesting interpretation of the Gunslinger in Stephen King’s long awaited science fiction Western Horror mash-up should prove exciting. July 28

“It” –
King’s insane clown Pennywise returns for all kinds of inspired mayhem against a group of small town kids called “Losers.” Don’t go looking for sewer clowns. Everything about this re-boot looks top shelf. Sept. 8

Autumn

“Blade Runner 2049” – Replicant hunter Rick Deckard’s been missing for 30 years and had a secret that could lead to big trouble. Harrison Ford, Ryan Gosling, Robin Wright, and Dave Bautista ensure a high degree of quality. Oct. 6

“Friday the 13th“- All we have been told is that everybody’s favorite mass murderer  Jason Voorhees readies his hockey mask and machete to terrorize a new generation of oversexed camp goers at Crystal Lake. Count me in! Oct. 13

“Thor: Ragnarok”– Thor must race against time and the new threat of Hela as the thunder god faces Norse-God-Armageddon! The flick has teased appearances of The Hulk and Dr Strange. Kudos to Marvel Studios for creating these amazing team-ups that draw me in every time. Nov. 3

“Justice League” – Warner Brothers tries to bring the DC Superhero universe together. “Man of Steel” and “Dawn of Justice” will finally get to see their super hero mega franchise dream come to fruition.  Nov. 17

“Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi” – We have no idea who the last Jedi is, but you better believe I will be there in the front row opening night with my 3-D glasses on.  Dec. 15.

If you have a movie you think we should add to the list, sound off in the comments and let us know what’s going on.
